Ice Off Ballet for Ice Skaters

Ice skater takes ballet classes to increase their awareness of how to hold their bodies. The objective is to transfer a natural look to their skating.  Classical ballet stresses how to use the arms, legs, and head, plus acquiring the flexibility body flexibility and foot positions essential to properly execute advanced one and two foot turns, spins, and spirals.

Ballet works to strengthen and develop coordination that is equal on the left and right sides of the body. Too many skaters concentrate on their dominate side and ignor or underdevelop the side that is subborinate. This is somtimes expressed as clockwise and counter clockwise directionality.

The point is that practicing
off ice can provide the opportunity to enhanced their skating skills while reducing the risk of
injuries in acquiring the skills and confidence to perform new "tricks" for competitive programs.
